Dear readers,
As I was desperately trying to find some remedy to my sudden burst of acne whilst staying in Korea (and no it was not linked to my kimchi consumption), I have tried a bunch of acne treatment products and here are the ones that performed super well for me.
This post is a follow-up to the post on the best Pimple Patches.
Recommendations:
Sheet Masks: Mediheal Tea Tree Essential Mask ($13) Dr.Jart+ Pore Remedy Purifying Mud Mask ($9)
Pink Lotion: Neogen A-Clear Soothing Pink Eraser ($10)
Peeling Lotion: SoNatural Red Peel Tingle Serum ($30)
Tea Tree Face Oil: Aromatica Tea Tree Green Oil ($21)
1. Sheet Masks: Mediheal Tea Tree Essential Mask
Rating: 5 / 5
Highlights:
Quality sheet
Refreshing
Long hydration
Purifying
Reduces redness
What we don’t like:
Nothing
Where to begin with the Mediheal Tea Tree Essential Mask. There is not much to say other than it is probably the most-sold mask sheet in Korea, a best-seller for years, recently repackaged. The cellulose cotton sheet quality is impeccable, ultrafine silky fibre with a great fit on the face. The essence is delivered efficiently in 15 minutes and all the goodness is sucked in by your skin. This all-in-one calming mask gives a hydration boost like there is no tomorrow. Infused with tea tree oil, chamomile, rosemary and centella asiatica extract, your pores are deep cleaned, redness is reduced and skin troubles are minimised.
Dr.Jart+ Pore Remedy Purifying Mud Mask
Rating: 5 / 5
Highlights:
Purifying
Calms irritated skin
Treat acne
What we don’t like:
Expensive
This divine Dr.Jart+ Pore Remedy Purifying Mud Mask is everything you need to calm down troubled and irritated skin. It contains PHA to remove buildup, blackheads, and excess oil. This exfoliating sheet mask adheres very well to the skin but it needs some attention when applying it as it is divided into two parts; upper (eyes and forehead which I prefer to apply first) and lower (mouth and jawline). The result? A cleared, smoothed-out skin in one use without dehydrating skin thanks to the green mud ingredient. I love using this mask sheet for heavy-duty situations when my acne is a bit out of hand.
2. Pink Lotion: Neogen A-Clear Soothing Pink Eraser
Rating: 5 / 5
Highlights:
Non-irritating
Reduces hyperpigmentation
Shrinks breakouts
Dual-layer spot treatment
Parabens and fragrance free
What we don’t like:
Application requires a cotton bud that absolves some product
An absolute favourite of mine, the Neogen A-Clear Soothing Pink Eraser, or the ultimate pimple fighter. Some of the active ingredients it contains are calamine powder, tea tree leaf oil, and four forms of centella asiatica. They will help shrink your pimples whilst preventing any irritation or dryness feeling. It is recommended to not shake the bottle when using it as the dual layers contained inside the bottle are meant to be separate to effectively treat and heal acne. You only need to dip a cotton bud into the unmixed solution; slowly pull it out after it had soaked up the powder and liquid, then gently dab over areas of concern. Truly worth trying this spot treatment!
3. Peeling Lotion: SoNatural Red Peel Tingle Serum
Rating: 4.5 / 5
Highlights:
At-home peeling treatment
Smoothes the skin
Removes dead skin
Minimizes pore appearances
What we don’t like:
Pricey
The SoNatural Red Peel Tingle Serum is an at-home peeling serum that removes dead skin cells with a little tingling sensation to reveal smoother skin. Honestly, you get used to the sensation after a few uses and if you are a peeling serum user already, you will not feel a thing. It is packed with AHA, BHA, berry and other fruit extracts that help to clean off blackheads, whiteheads and dead skin cells effectively and minimizes enlarged pores. The soft and smooth baby skin you were looking for is here! Recommended to use once or twice a week and to rinse with water.
4. AHA-BHA Exfoliator: Krave Beauty Kale-Lalu-yAHA
Rating: 5 / 5
Highlights:
Non-irritating
Gentle exfoliator
Hydrating formula
Packed with natural ingredients
Plastic neutral certified
What we don’t like:
Nothing
For those who are not familiar with Krave Beauty, the brand cares about developing environmentally friendly formulas and packaging where the focus is put on the skin rather than the skincare. The Krave Beauty Kale-Lalu-YAHA is a gentle exfoliator that helps to unclog pores and regain your skin glow with a smoothed-out texture. The formula is rich in hyaluronic acid to hydrate for smoother and evenly toned skin as well as antioxidants from kale, spinach, and parsley to energize dull skin and provide vitamins A, B, C, E, & K. 100% cruelty-free, this exfoliator will not destroy your skin barrier but rather foster the skin natural renewal process.
